Laura Stanton was named Assistant Commissioner of the Office of Strategy Management in April 2016, where she directs the Federal Acquisition Service’s strategic business planning, performance management, category management, Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative, and Acquisition Gateway adoption. She plays an integral role in creating and executing a FAS strategic vision that aims to position itself as the Government Acquisition Marketplace. She facilitates collaboration among FAS business units and champions business process design and change management efforts that achieve mission results and organization transformation. Additionally, she is leading the evolution of category management at FAS, which is providing acquisition expertise to improve spend management for federal agencies. Along with this work, she is coordinating with the Category Management Leadership Council and the Office of Federal Procurement Policy to implement category management government-wide.

Smyth’s managers say her outstanding achievements in managing DHS’ Strategic Sourcing Program Office are among the strongest in government. She and her team consistently provide solutions that achieve significant savings for taxpayers, promote standardized products and services for users, and ensure that DHS remains mission-ready. In fiscal 2016, the program accounted for $482 million in savings based on $3.2 billion spent in nearly 80 strategically sourced contract vehicles. Smyth also excels as the federal-wide category manager for the Security and Protection Category.
